2,4-D Chemical Sensor

Why is 2,4-D Harmful?

It is comparable to chemically induced cancer.

2,4-D is a common herbicide that destroys broadleaf plants by duplicating and dividing important cells. It messes with the plants ability to transfer nutrients to the right places. It absorbs through the plant’s meristem, leaving the internal organs exposed to this poison.

Grape Vines are particularly sensitive to 2,4-D, with even 1/800th of the recommended product usage damaging or killing the long lived vine.

The Problem, The Solution

The nature of agriculture means that there are often neighboring farms to vineyards. This leaves the vineyard open to attack- and vineyard farmers must protect themselves from this liability. Unfortunately, it is difficult to hold neighboring farms that use 2,4-D accountable for their actions. With quantitative proof of harmful chemical usage, the vineyard is able to protect themselves legally and emotionally. This is why Oliver created a chemical sensor for 2,4-D. We solved this problem through automated systems that do not require extensive chemical testing.
